Family Engagement 25th August minutes

Family Engagement Meeting Monday 25th August 2014

Minutes

–          Father’s Day stall. Need help for the Father’s Day stall. Would be best to have 5 people helping at the stall throughout the day. Helpers are still required for 11.30 – 1.30 timeslots. Please let michelle know if you are available to help at these times.

Do we want to have a catalogue for this years stall? Michelle Ferguson will put together and publish today.

Agreed to run the stall as the mother’s day stall was run earlier in the year – one class at a time rather than by student surname.

Stall located in BLC.

–          Where have funds from disco and easter raffle fundraising been allocated to? Air- conditioning and also shelter over the grade 2 portable area. Michelle Ferguson shared about the work that the school grounds for learning group of students do and showed some pictures of some more colourful options other than the standard tin roof that may enable this area to also be used for learning.

–          Transition help. We require some assistance with putting together the transition packs for the incoming preps. Some laminating is required – This can be done at home early in the first week of term 4. We will need some help at school to put the packs together once the laminating is complete. The Thursday of the first week? Is anyone available on that morning?

–          Communication issues between specialist teachers and home/classroom teachers and home with regards to events only affecting some students such as hoop time. Views on how we might improve. Michelle Ferguson to follow up on constructive feedback.

–          Discussion re events for next term. Election Day bbq? Election has been called for 29th November – we have not had confirmed if we are to be a polling place yet, but it is likely we will be.

Christmas event. A Christmas event has been discussed in the past that might include a dress up and parade. Discussion re the logistics of a parade at this time of year and the impact on class teachers – and possible clash with Junior School Council dress up days. It was suggested that Family Engagement might work WITH Junior School Council to build a Christmas event, combining the Christmas Raffle with the Junior School Council “giving- back” activities. Michelle Ferguson to follow up further with Junior School Council and Leadership.

Ps. I have been investigating this further during today (Tuesday)– and it certainly seems doable. JSC are very willing to have Family Engagement on Board and to even further combine this with the Rotary gift giving. More needs to be worked out about how this would work – and I will do this as soon as I return from my trip away. It sounds very exciting a great opportunity for the family engagement team to work directly with this lovely group of students. Let me know if this is something that interests you to be involved in!
